Rough and fine boring

Illustration of Rough and fine boring

Boring used to widen an existing hole

This method is often used to clean larger holes in cast components for further machining. IN THE CASE OF rough boring, the removal rate is high and the achieved tolerances are worse.

As a follow-up operation to rough boring, or as the main operation if the hole is close to the desired tolerances, fine boring can be used which has lower removal rate but higher tolerances.

Boring
Chip-breaking operation when an existing hole diameter is increased by a rotary cutter.
