Cutting tools of Polycrystalline diamond

Cutting tool where the cutting edge material holds grains of natural or synthetic diamond

By mixing diamond particles, usually polycrystalline diamond - PCD, cemented carbide inserts are produced that have very good abrasion resistance due to the hardness of the grains. Its sensitivity to impact and lower thermal resistance limits its use.

Usually, only the active part of the insert contains the diamond grains.

There are also inserts that are coated with a type of amorphous carbon which gives the cutting edge properties that approaches the diamond. This is called the DLC, diamond-like carbon.
