Low cycle fatigue testing

Material testing where fatigue resistance is determined by rotating the material with a small number of cycles, in a machine while it is loaded with a large force.

The process

The material [1] to be tested is placed in a chuck and rotated usually at 1000 cycles. This is done while the material is loaded with a load [3]. This means that the material will eventually deform both elastically and plastically, and the occurrence of failure is inevitable. The material fatigue strength can then be determined by performing several tests and calculating the Coffin-Manson relationship.
