Shore test

Testing method for materials where a durometer measures the elasticity to calculate the hardness of the material.

Beskrivning
Illustration of Shore test

The process

Durometer [1] is pushed by hand against the test material [2] surface. The presser foot is lowered into the material and the depth of the impression is read directly on durometer scale which gives the material's hardness.

Advantages and disadvantages
In comparison with alternative methods
Portable equipment
staff can be easily trained to use the method
Inexpensive compared to other methods
Depends on the skill of the operator
Only limited thickness can be tested
Only resilient material can be tested
