The process

Before processing can begin the work should have been pre-treated to achieve a clean surface, which is usually done through electrolytic cleaning followed by pickling and rinsing. Sometimes the surface is coated with a flux to create an optimal adhesion.

The workpiece is dipped in a bath of liquid zinc which is heated to about 460°C to keep the zinc molten. Zinc secures and creates a coating on the workpiece which is then taken out of the bath and drained of excess zinc.

Depending on the design, the part can be given subsequent treatment to remove accumulations of zinc or sharp spikes.
