Gold plating

Application of a thin layer of gold with the help of an anode-cathode reaction between parts and the blank.

The process

The part to be coated acts as a cathode and the surface coating material, gold acts as the anode. Both are immersed in a solution which vary in composition depending on the material, the desired process speed, and the final result.

An anode-cathode reaction is created by the voltage applied allowing the gold ions to leave the anode and wander through the liquid to the part where it’s applied as a thin layer on its surface.

In some cases, the cathode is powdered and dispersed in the solution to obtain a more even distribution of particles in the solution.
