Cold Pressure Welding

Joining process where a large plastic deformation joins together two workpieces without pre-heating.

The process

Two workpieces, not preheated, are mounted in clamps [1] that are pressed together. This causes a large plastic deformation in the contact surface. This deformation displaces any impurities and oxides, which in conjunction with the high pressure results in the workpieces joining via a metallic connection.
