Tin plating

Surface coating process where the workpiece through an anode-cathode reaction is coated with a layer of tin.

The process

Before processing can begin the work should have been pre-treated to achieve a clean surface, which is usually done by electrolytic cleaning followed by pickling and rinsing.

The workpiece acts as a cathode and the surface coating agent as an anode. Both are immersed in a solution which vary in composition depending on the material, the desired process speed, and the final result.

An anode-cathode reaction is created by the voltage applied, causing the tin ions to leave the anode and migrate through the liquid to the part, where it’s applied as a thin layer on its surface.
