Magnetic polishing

Polishing process in which the workpieces are placed in a liquid containing detergent and small ferromagnetic needles which is rotated by externally applied magnetic fields.

Illustration of Magnetic polishing

The process

The work pieces are lowered into a vessel [1] filled with a cleaning liquid [2]. Free ferromagnetic needles [3] in the liquid is set in motion by the magnetic generated by the electro-magnets in the rotating disk [4]. The magnetic field affects the needles which begin to rotate with the disk, which means that it rubs against the workpieces and polishes its surface by impact and cleaning chemicals in the liquid.
