Laser Pressure Welding

Joining process where two workpieces are welded by use of a laser beam and a pressure-loaded roller, which continuously moves over the heating area.

Illustration of Laser Pressure Welding

The process

The workpieces to be welded are pre-heated with a laser beam [1] with low power to just below the melting point. A roller [2], which applies a high pressure, joins metals by its motion along with the added heat energy allowing for easier atomic movement both in and between the different metals.
