Electrolytic-polishing

Polishing process where the workpiece is immersed in a heated electrolyte and where the workpiece is subjected to a current so that its surface is partially ionized and dissolved.

The process

The workpiece acts as the anode and is lowered together with one or more cathodes [1] in a tank of electrolyte. The electrolyte usually consisting of sulfuric acid or phosphoric acid is heated by the heating element [2]. The applied voltage allows the workpiece surface to be partially ionized resulting in a glossier and smoother surface.
