The process

The solid mold halves [1] are positioned below the fill-pipe and mold sand fills the gap after which the mold halves are pressed together, optionally under vibration, to form a compacted sand mold with indentations on either side.

One solid mold half is retracted and lifted up so that the other can slide the sand mold into line with the finished sand molds. The space created between the sand molds creates the required mold which is then filled with molten metal.

This process is repeated and thus creates a fully automated production line in which solidified detail in the end of the line is removed continuously.
