The process

The material [1] to be processed is placed in a pre-chamber and heated to a temperature just above its melting point. A press [2] then presses the material down through a channel of the closed mold [3].

After the melt solidified the mold is separated and the detail is pressed out using ejectors [4].

Advantages and disadvantages
In comparison with alternative methods
Short cycle
Tighter dimensional tolerances
Complex mold
Expensive tools
More waste that can not be reused
Slower process compared to an injection tool
