The process

Work piece, usually in the form of a disk [1], is pressed between the two mandrels in which one or both forms the inner shape of the part.

The workpiece is then rotated while a tool in the form of a rotary disk is pressed against its periphery. The applied force deforms the workpiece by plastic deformation. This way, you can also provide the completed detail with varying thickness for optimized strength.
