The process

A polymer melt [1] is input in a partially separated mold [2] which is then pressed together so that the melt is pressed in all areas of the mold.

After the melt has solidified completely the mold halves are separated and the part is pushed out by ejector [3].

Advantages and disadvantages
In comparison with alternative methods
Can produce products with few stresses, can produce products with thick walls
Increased accuracy of dimensions
Detailed process knowledge necessary
Extra costs for the machine
Extra costs for the mold
Complicated to monitor the process
