Hammer peening

Material property-changing processing in which a ball-shaped punch strikes the material to create residual stresses in the surface.

The process

A ball-shaped punch strikes the surface of the workpiece at high frequency while being moved laterally. Every stroke creates a deformation causing residual stresses and resulting in hardening.

In addition to making the surface harder, it also increases its resistance to corrosion and fatigue resistance while reducing the risk of cracking.
