Electrochemical cutting

Electrochemical processing where an electrolyte between a toothless blade and workpiece corrode the workpiece resulting in a cut.

The process

By connecting to a power source, the workpiece acts as anode and the tool [1] as cathode. A preheated electrolyte [2] is continuously supplied and the workpiece is dissolved by the accelerated corrosion resulting from electrochemical machining.

The tool, a toothless blade, thus never touches the workpiece but there is always a gap with a liquid between them. This means that the processed contour is always slightly larger than the tool [3].
