Compression molding of mass

Plastic forming process where a tablet or a powder melts and solidifies into a preheated mold.

The process

The material [1] to be processed is placed in the form of a tablet or granules in a pre-heated mold [2]. The material is melted and compressed by the other mold half, which means that mold space is filled.

After the melt solidified the mold halves are separated and the part is pushed out by the ejector [3].

In comparison with alternative methods
Low cost of tools
Good for short series
No casting inlet
Good for large components
Slower processing
Not suitable for complex castings
Difficult to control the burrs
