Milling operation for making threaded holes

During thread milling, the rotating tool is lowered in a spiral motion into the hole while the profiled cutting edges creates the thread. An advantage over fixed thread taps is that the same milling tool can mill several different diameters.

The same tool can also be used to create external threads.
